BSUK Baseball/Fastpitch Catchers - CPD

Introduction:

This course has been developed specifically for baseball and fastpitch softball coaches looking for an introduction to developing catchers using 'The GB Way' methodology for baseball and GB Softball’s techniques for fastpitch.  

Who is it suitable for?

  • Coaches who wish to get an understanding of the drills, teaching methods and rationale GB Baseball and GB Softball use when developing catchers.
  • Coaches who want to share knowledge in a practical environment.
  • Baseball and softball coaches who wish to become specialist catching coaches.
  • Parents who wish to learn more technical information on how they can help their child develop as a catcher in either baseball or fastpitch softball. 

What are the pre-requisites?

  • Learners must be a minimum of 16 years old.
  • It is advised that very inexperienced coaches should take either 'The Activator Award' or 'Drills for Beginner Coaches - CPD Clinic'.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Explain the basic stance mechanics of catching in baseball and fastpitch softball when giving signs, with no runners on base and with runners on base.
  • Utilise drills to develop basic receiving skills.
  • Teach safe mechanics for blocking balls in the dirt.
  • Utilise drills to develop footwork and arm strength for throwing to bases.

  • The course will give you a basic understanding of what Great Britain Baseball and Great Britain Softball look for and implement when developing catchers.
  • Through this course, you will learn how to improve your catchers’ arm strength while reducing the risk of injury.
